I found your blog on 10 best homesteading sites.
We also raise Khaki ducks and we also have Muscovy ducks and Rhode Island Red chickens. A friend the other day brought us a Swedish blue duck that had been attacked by a dog. She limps, but is getting around quite well now. The pond has been great therapy. We have a very small pond where they dug a test pit for a dug well and it stays full of water all the time now. I think there is either a spring or run off that fills it all the time. The ducks love it and keep it free of bugs and frogs and vegetation. We get one egg a day from each of the ducks, but we haven't been able to sell them, so we eat them and sell the chicken eggs. Do you have the same problem? I like them for baking. They have a higher protein content and make very nice maringue. What is your favorite recipe using duck eggs or do you use them for all your baking?

If we had a fox hanging around I'd let the dog on him/her and if that didn't work I shoot him with rock salt. They can get their meat hunting rats and mice if they want, but not chicken and duck.
Thankfully we have not had problems yet with that, but we do have a dog roaming all the time. Our little Spot is a rat terrier/Boston terrier mix and not much get past her... even bear which she has treed on 3 occasions.

A good dog is definitely a man's best friend and a farmers joy.Mrs. Doughttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07703464320152527607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-475433301832883854.post-84202010044900614812010-09-14T09:49:28.961-07:002010-09-14T09:49:28.961-07:00Hallo Ruthy,
